Caye Caulker Forest Reserve was established in 1998 under the authority of the Forest Department and is managed by the Caye Caulker Group for Environmental Sustainability.
The Forest Reserve is located at the northern tip of Caye Caulker – approximately 40 ha of littoral forest and mangroves. The Littoral Forest is one of the most threatened ecosystems in Belize, and important for both permanent resident and migratory birds. The fringing mangroves provide important nursery habitat for juvenile fish and crustaceans.
The northern tip of Caye Caulker is surrounded by the Caye Caulker Marine Reserve, providing a high level of protected connectivity between the littoral forest, mangrove and seagrass ecosystems.
